Each year the National Precast Association (NPCA) releases the Benchmarking Report, which is put together by an independent survey company. This year’s report showed the precast concrete industry grew by 5.2 percent. A total of $16.2 billion in sales was earned by the sector.
According to the NPCA, “The growth in the precast sector slightly outpaced the 4.8% growth estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau for the value of construction in 2013. Precast manufacturers consumed 11 million tons of cement in 2013, up from 10 million tons the previous year. The manufacturers produced about 33 million cubic yards of concrete, the same as the previous year.”
Septic tank sales increased by eight percent, with a total of $924 million in sales. Del Zotto has certainly noticed this increase, providing many of the septic tank forms to the precast septic tank industry. Another notable sub-category that showed significant growth in the report, was utility building, which grew by 50 percent to $526 million in sales.
Precast Industry Benchmarking Survey
The basis of the NPCA’s Benchmarking Report is the Precast Industry Benchmarking Survey. The survey included 62 precast concrete companies representing 211 plants. The report also includes information on operations data, plant sales, compensation tracked by position and benefits.
